OPEN:

Open to FIDE registered members of the WCU or any other national chess federation.

MAJOR (U1900):

For players rated under 1900 FIDE (or under equivalent national ratings if no FIDE rating exists).

MINOR (U1650):

For players rated under 1650 FIDE (or under equivalent national ratings if no FIDE rating exists).

Note: If you do not have a rating but wish to enter the Major or Minor, please consult the organiser before entering.


Timetable

Friday 15th August:

Welcome: 6.30pm

Round 1: 6.45pm

 

Saturday 16th August:

Round 2: 10.00am

Round 3: 3.00pm

 

Sunday 17th August:

Round 4: 10.00am

Round 5: 3.00pm

Prize Giving: 6.30pm (or soon after)


Rate of Play

Digital clocks will be used.

Each player receives 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move from move one.


Entry & Regulations

Entry Deadline: Midday on Saturday 9th August 2025. Entries after this date are subject to availability and a £10 surcharge.

All players must be registered members of the WCU or another national body (registration valid for the 2025–2026 season).

Players from England are asked to notify the ECF on gpa@englishchess.org.uk if they wish to have their games graded as out-of-England events.

Junior prizes require at least 4 juniors (2 from England & 2 from Wales) in each section.

The Robert Graham Taylor Memorial Trophy will be awarded to the highest-placed Welsh player in the OPEN.

No player may win more than one prize (except Junior prizes which can be won in addition). In the event of a tie, prize money is shared equally.


Additional Regulations

Players arriving more than 30 minutes late for a round will be defaulted.

Appeals against arbiter decisions will follow a formal appeals procedure, explained at the event.

Smoking and vaping are allowed only in designated areas outside the venue.
