About

The Thinkerโ€™s Journal is a bi-monthly magazine dedicated to telling the story of chess in Wales โ€” one thoughtful move at a time.

Created by players and enthusiasts, The Thinkerโ€™s Journal exists to celebrate the people, clubs, and events that make Welsh chess special. Weโ€™re not an official body โ€” just a small group of chess lovers who believe the rich and growing chess scene in Wales deserves to be documented, shared, and celebrated.

Our Mission

Our goal is to:

  • Highlight the achievements of Welsh players, both young and old
  • Cover local leagues, tournaments, and grassroots events
  • Share stories that inspire, connect, and reflect our chess community
  • Encourage new players to take part and help clubs grow

We believe that every game has a story โ€” and we want to help tell yours.

Whatโ€™s Inside Each Issue

  • Tournament results and league updates
  • Player profiles and junior highlights
  • Annotated games and puzzles
  • Club news and chess culture
  • Upcoming events and reader contributions

Whether youโ€™re a weekend warrior, a first-time junior, or a lifelong club captain โ€” The Thinkerโ€™s Journal is for you.

Made by the Community โ€” For the Community

This magazine is powered by volunteers and built on the voices of its readers. If youโ€™re organising a tournament, running a school club, mentoring a junior, or have a story worth sharing โ€” we want to hear from you.

Letโ€™s Grow the Game, Together

Our hope is to shine a light on Welsh chess in all its forms โ€” and encourage others to join, contribute, and fill the spaces where new stories are waiting to be written.
